  • The Position Of The Techie Is Under The Radar But It Doesn’t Mean That They Are Not Crucial

It is a sadness that techies are seen as being in someway strange or unusual. Our civilisation is now at a point where it depends almost entirely upon folks who would be viewed as techies by those who think of themselves to be un-geek. And yet for everything from search engine optimisation to building the most useful and complicated IT systems it is the hordes of nerds that turn them out. When you regard the least techie sorts such as armed forces personnel, their lives rely upon the incredibly clever weapons they use. The Apache helicopter for example is able to identify and prioritise hundreds of targets at once and can release a missile that will sort out it’s own point of entry into the building it’s been pointed at. Systems built by the geeks.

If somebody was a low level techie, then working for an affordable SEO company would be perfect as a technical know how isn’t vital but if you are extremely capable already but wanting to do more, then getting into software consultancy is the way to go. But, focussing on search engine optimisation as an immensely vital function, getting the client’s webpages visible to their potential customers is the difference between the business continuing or not. The advantage a skilled affordable SEO company gives is that for a known budget, the links to the site can be shown to unlimited visitors. Ad-word campaigns with a fixed daily limit have the built in downside that when the maximum limit is reached, the link is no longer presented and you still pay whether the visitor does business on the site or not.

Having done, and going on with, software consultancy too, I can state with some gravitas that it is much less satisfying although the best fun bit is having completed the program, testing it and finding the parts that don’t work and changing them. That genuinely is a pleasure despite the dire irritation when you can’t understand why it isn’t doing what it’s supposed to be since after a while you just know that the solution is very simple and looking you in the face.

But the software consultancy I generally do now is advising small firms on the software they employ in their companies and how they can get the best and up to date versions and updates. So many outfits I have worked for use ancient versions which are not really up to the job, particularly when they share files and data with clients, suppliers and other involved bodies as the day will come when they cannot open a file at all. Which can be humiliating at best, and hazardous at worst because there will be a halt on any work until the position is fixed.

But the finest thing by country mile, is search engine optimisation simply since it is such a vital service and although it is a bit of a black art, it is pretty straightforward and highly enjoyable. And, as long as one stays an affordable SEO company, the relationship with the customer should be a long one as the process is ongoing to get the client’s site at the summit of the search results and then keep it there. And as the nature of the task is predicated on results then expenditure can be budgeted, and if wanted, more pages can be supplemented to the SEO portfolio.

The customers could be the manliest individuals known among the species, they could be the market standard of cool and sophistication, but it’s the nerds that keep them going but, happily they will be well out of the way, invisible but essential.
